David R. Smith

David R. Smith is the founder of Smith Advisory Services Inc. where he helps leaders, boards and enterprising families solve their most complicated challenges.

The scope of his guidance ranges from strategy creation through to effective execution, with considerations for all supporting systems. During David’s consulting career he has completed a wide range of engagements for high-profile firms including the Martin Prosperity Institute and the Boston Consulting Group. His consulting experience spans: BPO, Culture, Family Offices, Financial Services, Manufacturing, Publishing, Professional Services, Technology and Academia – to name a few.

David earned an MBA from the Rotman School of Management at the University of Toronto.  He is also a certified Family Enterprise Advisor (FEA) and a member of its National Council.  David has been granted the ICD.D designation from the Institute of Corporate Directors and holds additional degrees in Psychology and English Literature, as well as Adult Education.

Outside of his client work, he has long believed in the importance of developing the talents of young leaders and enjoys helping others achieve their goals as a mentor.

His commitment to community service is extensive and wide-ranging.  Currently, he serves as Chair of the board for Rise and spent three years as Chair of their Investment Committee.  David also Chairs the Quadrangle Society of Massey College where he serves on their Governing Board.  He enjoys writing, guest lecturing, hosting and speaking on panels whenever he gets the chance.
